It is believed that in the 18th century, 16 Jewish families settled in Krekenava, and at the end of the 19th century., out of 2,187 inhabitants, more than 1 500 were Jews. As the community grew, the need arose to have a house of prayer, so over time, two synagogues were built. The surviving romantic style synagogue was built in the 19th century. During the Soviet era, the building was turned into a warehouse, and after the restoration of Lithuania's independence, the building was turned into a sports facility.

Now only a memorial plaque reminds us about the original purpose of the building.
