Exhibition at the historical building of the Bank of Lithuania in Kaunas. It covers the development of the country’s financial and banking systems: the emergence of the first Lithuanian money – silver bars – in the 13th century, the arrival of the coins of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the establishment of credit institutions in Kaunas in the second half of the 19th century–beginning of the 20th century, the establishment of the Bank of Lithuania and the national monetary system, its destruction during the Soviet occupation and the revival of the financial system of the independent state of Lithuania. The exhibition also highlights the role of Kaunas as a financial centre during the interwar period (1918–1940).

The exhibition showcases unique museum valuables: currency production materials, designs and samples of coins that were not issued into circulation, banknotes that have not become everyday legal tender as well as other valuable exhibits related to the activities of the Bank of Lithuania both in the interwar period and today.
