Lekėčiai Town is first to be met by the sun in Užnemunė. The tree tops drown in the golden light, when Liekė sparkles in the beams of the sunshine. The air is filled with the fragrance of resin and blueberries.

When you arrive at the nearby Novaraistis, you feel as if you are standing closer to the sky. After all, it is the highest point of the vicinities above the sea level. In the autumn, almost a thousand of cranes land on swamp before flying away for the winter. Having gathered in the upland moor, they award their audience with a memorable concert. When the day is closing in, the flocks of cranes start wheeling over and slowly land to Novaraistis. In addition to the flock of cranes, you can also see 33 species of birds included into the Red Data Book of Lithuania. There are great bitterns, black-necked grebes, whooper swans, black storks, sea eagles and many others in Novaraistis Ornithological Reserve.

Upon coming down, the surrounding cool meadows with the cognitive trail of Lekėčiai across invite for a refreshment through the cognitive trail of Lekėčiai. The journey stretches through the railroad constructed during the First World War, passing the Sengirė that has been soughing for years and the graves of partisans reminding of the battles of freedom defenders in the post-war years. In the spring, visitors are greeted by clouds of the white lilies of the valley and paths of blueberries in the summer. The sheet of blueberries covers the entire wood. Could this be an announcement of the start of the Blueberry Festival?

There is a pleasant surprise for those wandering in the forest by an unexpected oasis. The Great Spring, also known as Lekėčiai Spring is the longest and most watery spring of Rūdšilis Wood, which has become a natural monument of local significance. It is said that earlier it was even more watery and used to steam even in the frost. After the First World War, people used to gather to do the laundry here, now they come to collect some pure water. After a 4-kilometre hike, a refreshing spring water makes a real pleasure!

After returning from the forest to the centre of Lekėčiai, we will feel the cosiness of the small town, and some may want to read the works of the writers Kazys Puida and Gražina Tulauskaitė, who were born here.
