Princess Liudvika Sviatopelk-Mirska, daughter of the prominent statesman and church benefactor Juozapas Godlevskis, married Prince Adomas Napoleonas Sviatopelk-Mirskis in 1845. The young couple settled in the Petkeliškiai Manor near Juodbūdis, where their life together, though loving, was short-lived. Liudvika’s health deteriorated, and even the most renowned physicians of the time could not save her. She died in Würzburg in 1859 at the age of 33, and two years later her husband passed away in Berlin. Both were brought back to Lithuania and laid to rest in the crypts beneath the Church of St. Louis in Veiveriai.

Beside the church stands the Angel Monument, a symbol of the tender and tragic love story of Liudvika and Adomas. According to legend, the grieving prince sketched his wife’s portrait and commissioned three angel statues to honor her memory-one in Würzburg, one in Užvėrė, and one in Veiveriai. The Veiveriai angel, like the one in Würzburg, has survived to this day and is protected as a cultural heritage monument. It remains a serene and evocative place, inviting visitors to pause and reflect on a story of devotion, loss, and enduring remembrance.
