Dzūkija Arboretum was established with the aim of enriching the dendroflora of Southern Lithuania, a region that historically lacked botanical gardens and arboreta. Its foundation was the private collection of dendrologist Dr. Laimutis Januškevičius, who began gathering woody plants in 1978. Over time, the collection expanded into a public educational space featuring more than 700 plant species and decorative forms, including many rare trees not found elsewhere in the region.
The arboretum covers about 5 hectares and is designed according to ecological and decorative principles, taking into account plant architecture, terrain, and microclimate. The landscape includes hills, the Tolupė stream, a pond, and two main collection areas. It is open to visitors and offers guided tours and educational walks, providing an opportunity to explore a diverse range of plant life.
