Surrounded by the Žuvintas and Amalva wetlands, the small town of Daukšiai became home to a unique exhibition opened in 2025 by history and rune enthusiast Juozas Šeimys. Since childhood, driven by curiosity and a passion for exploration, Juozas has collected various artefacts found in the Daukšiai area: stone axes, flint arrowheads, seals, amulets, ornaments, and other intriguing objects. The collection grew so large that not all items could be displayed, so the exhibition features only the most interesting and significant pieces: a roughly 7000-year-old elk-antler axe, flint tools, Neolithic amulets, and artefacts bearing inscriptions that Juozas associates with Etruscan and ancient Lithuanian writing containing mysterious runes.
Juozas Šeimys not only studies historical artefacts but also interprets runes. According to him, ancient writing systems - from Egyptian to Etruscan, from Sarmatian to Baltic - are connected through a single common thread: the old Lithuanian language and runes. Adding to the exhibition are vivid wall illustrations created by Daukšiai artist Jonas Glaveckas, inspired by themes of historical memory. These artworks enhance the experience and invite visitors to look deeper into the prehistoric past of the region and the worldview of ancient people.
Visits must be arranged in advance.
