After Lithuania regained its independence in 1990, a park was created on the other side of the railway, with trees planted by various organisations in Jonava. At the edge of the park on Paneriai Street there are stone puzzles of various sizes - symbols of Lithuanian Independence, which the exile Aldona Rutkauskiene worked on for 2 years until she created a unique monument in memory of the freedom fighters and riflemen who fell at the hands of the Soviet occupiers. On the slope of the park there is a wooden chapel-pillar (the Riflemen's Cross), erected in 1989, dedicated to the memory of the Riflemen.
