The place where the Neris meets the Nemunas. The place surrounded by the romantic aura throughout the year. It is the place where Confluence Park is located. The area of nearly 13 hectares delights with its greenery and tranquility.
In spring the medieval spirit revives in the Confluence Park: it is the time when Kaunas celebrates Hansa Days. After all, it is the only city in Lithuania that belongs to the new Hanseatic League! The fair surrounds the Park with a lively clatter, and the clanking of the swords in the knights’ tournament are interwoven with the music of menestrels and the sounds of jazz.
In the warm summer evenings over 1,000 Kaunas residents willing to relax gather at the amphitheatre founded next to St.George the Martyr Church. They look forward to seeing the historic performance dedicated to the Coronation of King Mindaugas. The next day they will rush to Kaunas Castle to listen to the sound of the wonderful "Operetta at Kaunas Castle" festival.
In all seasons the Monument to Pope John Paul II, located in an honourable and sacred place next to St. George the Martyr Church, radiates its peace in the Confluence Park. It is dedicated to commemorate a special date: in September 4-8, 1993, when the Pope of the Catholic Church visited Lithuania for the first time, and the mass was conducted at the Confluence Park. After 25 years, the preaching words by the Pope have still remained in the minds of the believers, and the unforgettable love to the personality of the blessed one has remained in their hearts.
The park reveals the beautiful views of Kaunas districts: Aleksotas and Vilijampolė. According to the legend, it is the place where Kūnas (or Kaunas), the son of Duke Palemonas, built a castle and founded a city and gave his own to it. From time immemorial, Confluence is the true cradle of Kaunas which has been granting peace to the people residing here, in spite of any seasons or historical periods.
