"I have sacrificed my whole life and work to Lithuania", - these words spoken by Prof. Tadas Ivanauskas embellish the Obelynė Park. This 100 years old homestead still reminds of the light memory of the professor to these days.
When walking barefoot in the park, you can feel the scent of the summer: the air is filled with the sweet aroma of apples. When looking into the distance, it is impossible to see the end of the 4 hectare garden and park! It is filled with a wide range of deciduous trees that blend in the distance with the Kamša Botanical and Zoological Reserve. No wonder Prof. T. Ivanauskas fell in love with this place.

Professor acquired 8 hectares of land in 1920 from the sold off Marva Palace and named it Obelynė due to the abundant wild apple trees and hawthorns blossoming in the park. It was an amazing location for setting up a botanical park: remote, warm, natural.

Try this apple. Yes, it is the great Lithuanian "Vytis"! What about this one? You will not confuse its taste with that of any other. It is the Pineapple Berry. Lift your eyes up. You will see some of the oldest trees in the world shooting up to the sky: the ginkgo biloba and the soon to be 60-year-old dawn redwood. Finally, look around! You are surrounded by historical greenery and 250 species of deciduous plants: oaks, beeches, hazelnuts, birches, walnuts, silk trees, bird cherries, clover dollies, vining plants. This is the only park of this kind in Lithuania.

Although born in the current territory of Belarus, Prof. T. Ivanauskas, always considered himself as Lithuanian. During 88 years of his life, this famous environmentalist contributed to development of dozens of natural science objects: Nature Research Station, Museum of Zoology in Kaunas, Botanical Garden of Kaunas, Ventės Ragas Ornithological Station, Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve, Kaunas Zoo. He did not create these places, just like Obelynė Homestead, for himself, but to Lithuania. Obelynė is a marvellous natural monument enchanting us by its countryside all year round.
