Can you hear to the sound of rustling of pages of history, blown by the wind? Having climbed up the top of the Žemoji Panemunė Mound, they calm down and open exciting stories about this hill to the wondering visitor. Which one would you like to hear first?
Having opened the first page, we wander off to the troubled times of the Crusaders. The echo of the proudly riding army of the Crusaders reaches us. After all, the sounds of fighting often sounded in this land. On the 19 mounds forming a zigzag pattern there were great fortresses located, protecting the homeland against enemies attempting to invade it.
Up till now the local residents tell about these castles and underground hiding under them. According to them, there still is a tunnel near the Žemoji Panemunė Mound that connects the Nemunas and the Žemoji Panemunė Manor, which was founded instead of the then located castle of the Crusaders. Although we will not see the magnificent castles, the Mound is still enveloped by a mystery: believe the stories about the underground or not. The inexpressible panorama of the Nemunas River Valley will capture every traveller who has reached the top of the Žemoji Panemunė Mound.
Unconsciously the glimpse captures the silver glittering on the slope. This is another puzzle of the Žemoji Panemunė Mound. While exploring the foot of the slope, archeologists found a coin of the Greek Emperor Marcus Aurelius, horse-shaped brooches, bracelets, melted brass fragments, rough and smooth ceramics. How did it all appear here? Unfortunately, this story page was ripped out by the wind and we will never find it out.
