The stone was discovered in about the early 1960s during the construction of a pier in the Nemunas. The stone with natural hollow, like a cleft hoof is supposed to have been a pagan ceremonial stone. In the same place, there is a short, only 2,7 km, stream of Krūčius flowing into the Nemunas river. This stream is special in that it's bed slope is as much as 19 m/km, while the Nemunas is only 19 cm/km.
