In 1936, in the former village of Paserbentys in the Raseiniai district, one of the most renowned figures of the region was born and raised - the distinguished poet, essayist, translator, playwright, and outspoken critic of the Soviet system Marcelijus Martinaitis, who, through the mystical character Kukutis, dared to challenge the political regime of the time. In 1950, in the same homestead, his brother Algirdas Martinaitis - a prominent Lithuanian composer - was born. To commemorate these personalities and the now‑vanished native village of Paserbentys, a currant (created by artist Ieva Olimpija Voroneckytė) was painted on the wall of the tourism information center building. Next to it stands a bronze sculpture of "Kukutis" by Augustinas Kluoda.
