The most renowned composer and painter of Lithuania spent his early childhood in Druskininkai. The main house of the Čiurlionis family and a small one for rent to holiday makers have survived until our days. These buildings feature authentic interiors and courtyards restored. Upon entering the Museum, visitors within first several minutes unequivocally perceive what scale personality was M. K. Čiurlionis. On the walls they would read excerpts from the letters of the most celebrated artist of Lithuania, which are full of deep insight and carries great symbolic significance like his artistic works. He wrote to Sophia, the love of his life: "Our entire life will burn on the altar of Art, Eternal, Infinite, Almighty, – and, Zosė, I do believe that we are the happiest people under the stars, don’t you?"

Indeed, within 35 years of his life, M. K. Čiurlionis created about 300 paintings, which were far ahead of his time. Aside from the paintings, he composed more than 350 musical works, which were the first steps in Lithuanian professional music. He collected and arranged folk songs and assisted in restoration of Lithuanian national identity.

Every day worries of the visitors become blurred after reading the lines about the beauty of Druskininkai, the harmony in nature, compared to music accords by M. K. Čiurlionis on his way home from Leipzig Conservatoire to have holidays ... M.K. Čiurlionis wrote about his desire to dive unconditionally into the world of painting. While at the Museum, visitors want to look more deeply into the reproductions of pictures painted by this man of genius, linger in the exposition halls and listen to the music in the background created by this Composer. People promise to visit all environs of Druskininkai so that tiny particles of inspiration would be absorbed from the places that once fascinated M. K. Čiurlionis.

The entire memorial exposition tells the visitors a story about a modest existence of the Čiurlionis family in the late 19th and early 20th century, about an exceptional attention given by this family to art. Here you will find the piano instrument owned by the Composer, which was used by him to play whilst studying art in Warsaw, a timetable for organ playing survived, and a small room, which once belonged to this man of genius.
