The magnificent Zypliai Manor ensemble that connects even 11 remnant buildings open its doors to guests striving for culture. Surrounded by balsam poplars and other rare trees, the palace is often buzzing from early morning: art lovers come to see open exhibitions here, curious visitors crowd next to pots on the potter’s wheel at the ceramic workshops, and the Ramaškevičiai family of wine producers share their winery secrets accumulated by four generations of their family. This Manor is one of the most visited objects in Šakiai district, which has become the cultural cradle of this region long ago. Isn’t it curious how it all began?

The history of Zypliai Manor ensued when the Emperor Napoleon gave the Old Zypliai as a gift to his adjutant, the Grand Duke Juozapas Poniatowski, a nephew of Stanisław Poniatowski, the last king of the State of Poland and Lithuania. After the Duke’s death his sister Marija Teresė Tiškevičienė took over all of the property. However, Zypliai have never seen the new hostess - she resided in Paris. Due to the lack of money, M. T. Tiškevičienė sold Zypliai to Jon Bartkowski, the landlord of the governorate of Polotsk. He built an impressive palace in Palankiai village, further from Lukšiai, which took the name of the New Zypliai. When the landlord died, the property was inherited by his stepdaughter Joana Wolfers - Kučinskienė. The new hostess of the palace also did not bother to visit Zypliai more often. She came here only twice.

Finally, the New Zypliai were inherited by Earl Tomas Potockis. The new owner has done a lot of work in the Manor - the forest-like park was gradually changed: the western part of the park was created, romantic alleys were formed, ponds were excavated, one of them even had an island, trees of rare species were planted and rosariums were fostered. After a huge fire red brick buildings were reconstructed and have remained to this day and two-storey building bodies were built to the palace.

Tomas Potockis's owned Manor was filled with culture and art: even the Earl himself loved painting, wrote drama works, was indifferent to the Lithuanian language and even encouraged it: he learned Lithuanian and together with his wife Pelagija prepared Lithuanian evenings in Zypliai Manor. It was only owing to Tomas Potockis, that sculptor Vincas Grybas connected his life with arts. Having noticed the child's talent, Earl sent the young man to study the artistic secrets in Warsaw.

In the 20th century the hosts of Zypliai Manor changed: it accommodated a theological seminary, a school of agriculture, a hospital and even an office of a collective farm. Somber times were also inevitable - the Manor was falling apart, the windows were crumbling, the roof was leaking and the walls were cracking. After all, under the initiative of artist Vidas Čikana, Elder of Lukšiai, Zypliai Manor was revived and is looking forward to receiving guests again.

Exhibitions of works of art and folk art exhibitions are held in former stables, barn and in the left office building, while at the Zanavykai Museum located in the carriage house guests study traditional crafts. The luring scents invite guests to the renovated cuisine of the Manor, offering delicious dishes of the restaurant "Kuchmistrai". The atmosphere is filled with sounds of music by the annual concerts of Pažaislis Music Festival and the Music Festival "The Summer of Beatričė" and the traditional festival of chapels "Accompanying the Summer". It is difficult to imagine Zypliai Manor without the traditional Plain Air of folk artists "Grasshoppers of Zypliai Manor" and the Ceramic Festival - Fair "Going to Buy a Clay Pot". Thousands of tourists create a fun bustling here every year. It is pleasant to know that the Manor will always be full of bustle and will bring arts and people who love Lithuania.
